A glimpse of the top of the Galata Tower, built in 1348 at the apex of a series of fortifications which defended the Genoese colony established here in the later 13th century and which survived until the Ottoman Conquest of 1453. Before becoming a tourist attraction the tower served amongst other things as a fire-watching station. The tower's conical roof was blown off during a storm in 1875, not being replaced until a restoration in the 1960s. In the foreground is one of the few surviving towers of the Genoese fortifications.
View to the north-east from open ground accessed from Şahir Ziya Paşa Caddesi.
