Column of Arcadius
This massive structure is the base of what was a column some 50m high erected by the Emperor Arcadius in 402 to commemorate his military victories. The column, which stood at the centre of the Forum of Arcadius, survived until 1715, being demolished when it was thought to be in danger of collapsing onto surrounding houses.
The monument can be found towards the end of Haseki Kadın Sokağı, Cerrapaşa.
This view, of the east elevation, is from a yard behind the street.
