Early morning view along the main road ( now Mustafa Kemal Caddesi ) heading west towards the provincial capital Adıyaman. A couple of minibuses await passengers. Kâhta, a small agricultural town, is just beginning to expand, as urbanisation takes a grip ( the town's population is now over 80,000 ).
Today its relative prosperity is partly due to the development of Adıyaman oil field. Tourists are also drawn to the area by a number of notable archaeological monuments, which include the spectacular mountain-top Nemrut Dağı.
