Ferryboat SS Halas, Istanbul.

This ship has had an interesting life. Built by the Fairfield Company at its Govan shipyard on the River Clyde, Scotland, she was launched in October 1914. Intended as Bosphorus ferry Reşit Paşa she was requesitioned by the Royal Navy and served as RFA Waterwitch during the First World War, which included acting as a troop ferry at Gallipoli.
She fulfilled her intended role in 1923 ( as Bosphorus 71 ) being renamed Halas in 1954. Taken out of service in December 1983, she was saved from the breaker's yard and converted into a luxury cruise vessel. In the 1990s she was based on the Bosphorus in winter and in the Gulf of Fethiye in summer.
