Walls of Constantinople
This fortified wall, stretching from the Sea of Marmara to ( originally ) the Golden Horn, was built in the early 5th century, during the reign of Emperor Theodosius II. Following destructive earthquakes in 447 and 448, the defences were rebuilt and strengthened, with the addition of an outer wall and moat.
Sections of the walls and towers, including one seen here, were restored or reconstructed from the 1980s onwards.

This view, from the north-east, is of a length of the Inner Wall fronting Sulukule Caddesi, between and Millet Caddesi and Vatan Bulvarı ( now Adnan Menderes Bulvarı ).
