This 17th century mansion was, from 1686 to 1967, the residence of the representative in Constantinople of the Monastery of St Catherine at Mount Sinai.
The adjacent gateway leads to the courtyard of the Church of St John the Baptist, probably an ancient foundation, the present building dating from 1830.
The street level has risen somewhat.
