This small cemetery is situated next to the türbe ( tomb or mausoleum ) of Sultan Mahmut II. In it lie the remains of about 150 dignitaries of late Ottoman society. Mahmut died in 1839 and was interred in his tomb in 1840. Also in the tomb lie the remains of his son and grandson, Sultans Abdülaziz I and Abdül Hamit II, together with other members of the royal family.
In 2009, Osman Ertuğrul Osmanoğlu, a grandson of Abdül Hamit, was laid to rest in the cemetery.
