Nothing is known of the early history of this church, possibly dedicated to St Theodore. The main part of the church is thought to date from the 11th - early 12th centuries. Seen here is the outer narthex, added in the first half of the 14th century.
After the Ottoman Conquest the church was converted into a mosque by Molla Şemsettin Gürani, by whose name it is also known.
Tirendaz Sokağı, off Vefa Caddesi.
... The structure has undergone restoration.
