Founded by Sultan Ahmet I and built by the imperial architect Mehmet Ağa between 1609 and 1616, the Blue Mosque takes its popular name from the blue İznik tilework which decorates its interior.
In the foreground are fragmentary remains of the palaces of Antiochus and Lausus, dating from the early 5th century.
View from the north, near Divan Yolu Caddesi.
