Taksim Square
A view south towards Taksim Square from the end of Cumhuriyet Caddesi. The 'Taksim' was the water distribution centre nearby, built in 1732 by Sultan Mahmut I to feed water to various parts of the district. Visible on the skyline are the dome and towers of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity ( Aya Triada ), completed in 1882.
