The Inner Fortress occupies a high point in the north-east of the city. As well as being the site of a prehistoric mound known as Virantepe, there are remains of an Artukid palace, the Hazreti Süleyman Mosque, the former St George's Church, and a museum dedicated to Atatürk. The Ottomans established a number of administrative buildings in the citadel, including a prison and law courts. Seen here is the east-facing outer wall of the defences, with the Law Courts building beyond. The area is being redeveloped.
View from the south-east. Storks like this place.
