Carved into the cliff, this monument was commissioned by provincial governor Gaius Julius Aquila to honour Roman Emperor Tiberius Claudius Germanicus ( AD 41-54 ). As has been the way of things historically, both the human figure and the adjacent eagle have been rendered headless.
Located about 4 km south of the town, above the old road to Bartın.
