This burial mound, some 35m high, was constructed by Commagene King Mithridates II ( r 38 -20 BC ) as the resting place for his mother Isias. Investigations in 1967 revealed that there were no remains in the burial chamber, probably having been robbed in antiquity.
Just visible at the highest point on the skyline is Nemrut Dağı, the mountain-top tomb-sanctuary constructed by Mithridates's father Antiochus I in the 1st century BC.
