Early morning view along the main road ( now Mustafa Kemal Caddesi ) heading west towards the provincial capital Adıyaman. A couple of minibuses await passengers. Kâhta, a small agricultural town, is just beginning to expand, as urbanisation takes a grip ( the town's population is now over 80,000 ).
Today its relative prosperity is partly due to the development of the Adıyaman oil field. Tourists are also drawn to the area by a number of notable archaeological monuments, which include the spectacular mountain-top Nemrut Dağı.
