The fortress of Yeni Kale at Eski Kâhta ( now Kocahisar ) was built in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, during the reigns of Mamluk sultans Qalawun, Ashraf Khalil and Nasir Muhammad. The castle extends along a narrow ridge, which falls away precipitously on the south side. This view, from the south-west, shows the main part of the fortress.
