Arsameia on the Nymphaios ( Kahta Çay ) is the site of the Hierothesion ( tomb-sanctuary ) of Commagene King Mithridates I Kallinikos ( r 109 - 70 BC ). Among the remains is this stele, some 3m high, showing Mithradates greeting Hercules. It was re-erected in its original position in 1952 and is sited next to a lengthy Greek insciption above the entrance to a tunnel some 160m long descending into the mountain.
