This bridge, spanning the Cendere River, the ancient Chabinas, was built between AD 198 and 200 in honour of Emperor Septimius Severus, his wife Julia Domna, and their sons Caracalla and Geta.
Origionally two columns stood at either end of the 120m long bridge, but that dedicated to Geta, on the north side, was removed after his brother Caracalla had him murdered. That was the way of things in those days.
