Naqa, 100 km north-east of Khartoum, is situated on the east side of the Wadi Awateib some 30 km south-east from its confluence with the Nile. In antiquity it was the site of a Meroitic town and the remains of several buildings survive, including those of the Lion Temple ( Temple of Apedemak ), seen here in the distance.
Centre-right is a gathering of nomads, who bring their livestock to water at the deep well here.
