Thomas Bewick The Bewick Society
This monument pays tribute to Thomas Bewick ( 1753-1828 ), a notable wood engraver, whose workshop was at this place. The bronze bust was put up in 1905, on completion of Milburn House, the large office complex which now occupies the site. The plaque is of 1980, the 900th anniversary of the founding of the 'New Castle' by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, in 1080. The plaque was replaced in 2002.
