The central sector of Hadrian's Wall is sited on a dolerite escarpment known as the Whin Sill, the shadow of which is seen here. This view is from the western end of the Crags, which overlook Crag Lough. The dip on the left is known as Sycamore Gap, whilst the next one along is the site of Milecastle 39.
View to the north-west towards the Peatrigg Plantation.
