Although occupied from ancient times, Nevşehir, formerly Muşkara, was largely developed in the earlier 18th century by Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Paşa, a Grand Vizier during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Ahmet III.
This view, to the north, is from just below the castle.
... In 2013 most of the buildings in the neighbourhoods surrounding the castle were demolished as part of an 'Urban Transformation Project'.
