Topkapı Sarayı
CS-73/4/12E
Sultan Mehmet II began construction of the Topkapı Palace in 1459, a few years after the Ottoman Conquest. Occupying the site of the acropolis of ancient Byzantium, it was the home of the Ottoman Sultans until 1853, when Abdül Mecit I moved to the new Dolmabahçe Palace on the Bosphorus shore near Beşiktaş. After Turkish independence, Topkapı Sarayı opened to the public as a museum in 1924.
This early morning view is from a small hotel near Sirkeci railway station.

Dominant on the skyline is the Adalet Kulesi ( Tower of Justice ).
