Early morning view along the main road ( now Mustafa Kemal Caddesi ) heading west towards the provincial capital Adıyaman. A couple of minibuses await passengers. Kâhta, a small agricultural town, is just beginning to expand, as urbanisation takes a grip ( the town's population has more than doubled to over 60,000 since 1985 ).
Today its relative prosperity is partly due to the development of local oil fields. Tourists are also drawn to the area by a number of notable archaeological monuments, which include the spectacular mountain-top Nemrut Dağı.
