Sumatar ( now Yağmurlu Köyü ), formerly an important watering-place, is situated in the Tektek Mountains, some 30km north-east of Harran. A number of ruined structures, believed by some to be temples, are placed about the barren landscape, set back from a natural mound, seen here. Syriac inscriptions at the site dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries would seem to indicate that this place was a centre for the worship of the moon god Sin.
