Yedikule

The Fortress of Yedikule ( Seven Towers ) was created after the Ottoman Conquest when Sultan Mehmet II built three large towers and attached the connecting curtain walls to the west side of the existing 5th century Land Walls of Theodosius II. In Byzantine times the city was entered at this point through the Golden Gate, a triumphal arch originally thought to be a free-standing structure of the late 4th century but now believed to have been integral with the Land Walls. Yedikule Fortress
