İstiklal Caddesi
bvw photos ...
Early Sunday morning on İstiklal Caddesi. Originally the continuation of a road leading north from the walled settlement of Galata, it became known as the Grande Rue de Pera, being the main thoroughfare through Pera, the city's European quarter. European influence is evident in much of the avenue's 19th and early-20th century architecture.
The historic trams were reintroduced in 1990 after being taken off the rails in 1961.
View south-west towards Galatasaray from the junction with Hava Sokağı ( now Fuat Uzkınay Sokağı ).
On the right is the entrance to the Emek Pasajı.
