Church of Panagia Isodion < > Panayia İsodion Kilisesi
A view across the rooftops - this one from Meşrutiyet Caddesi, looking south-east towards İstiklal Caddesi.
In the foreground is the Greek Orthodox Church of Panagia Isodion ( 'Presentation of the Virgin' ), established in the early 19th century. The church is located a short distance off İstiklal Caddesi, at the end of Emir Nevruz Sokağı.
The central structure on the skyline is the Mısır Apartmanı building ( Egyptian Apartments ) of 1910, whilst to the right is a glimpse of the tower of the Church of St Anthony of Padua, the largest Catholic church in the city, completed in 1912.
The bomb attack on the British Consulate in 2003 severely damaged the church. Its restoration was completed in 2009.
