A quiet stretch of the river. It was here that I saw my first Pied Kingfisher, hovering above the water, before it plunged down on to some unsuspecting prey. This area was flooded in the mid-1970s by the waters of the lake formed behind the Tabqa Dam.
In the early 1930s the intrebid Oskar Speck fetched up hereabouts to continue on his long journey by kayak from Germany to Australia !
