Basa - Hafir

Hafirs are large reservoirs designed to store annual rainfall. The example at Basa possibly dates from the first century BC, during the Meroitic era. At a nearby temple four lion statues were found during excavations, with a further five standing around the hafir, the remains of one of which can be seen here.
Some 30 km south-east of Kabushiya in the Wadi Hawad.
