This church was built by Pope Hadrian I in the 8th century on the site of earlier structures. The bell tower was added in the earlier 12th century. A Baroque façade by Guiseppe Sardi, constructed in 1718, was removed in the late 19th century.
The large building on the left is the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
