Coalbrookdale was a centre for the production of cast iron, developed by Abraham Darby I from 1709 and carried on by his descendants and other Quaker families. His son, Abraham Darby II, had made provision for a burial ground for them, and when he died in 1763, was the first to be buried here.
The last burial took place in 1938. The headstones are lined up against the walls, but there is a plan of the position of each grave.
