Porthleven - HMS Anson Memorial
50.067730,-5.291630
This cross, on the cliff at Loe Bar, was erected in 1949 as a memorial to over 100 men who perished during the wreck there of HMS Anson in December 1807. The tragedy inspired Henry Trengrouse to develop his life-saving rocket apparatus.
A similar cross was also erected in 1949 on the cliff west of the town as a memorial those drowned mariners who over centuries were buried thereabouts.
View to the north. Loe Pool in the distance with a glimpse of Loe Bar on the left.
