St Ouën's Bay

We are standing on a panzermauer, a concrete anti-tank wall built by the Germans as part of their 'Atlantic Wall' defences during the occupation of the Island in World War 2. Some 4 km of walling was constructed here, supplementing the existing 19th-century sea defence wall. To the upper left, the dark mass projecting from the wall is a casemate for anti-tank guns.
